Reaction to meds and a wolf badge.

Well, as if Ella hasn’t dealt with enough lately, yesterday she came down with hives all over her body from the antibiotics.  Poor girl is so miserable and itchy.  She’s on Benadryl, but she’s still super fussy.  The dr. checked her ears today and said they weren’t all the way better, but we’re hoping they clear up by themselves, so we don’t have to put another drug in her system.

Luke thought it was awesome to sit next to Ella in the shopping cart at Costco.

Last night was the Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts.  We had an awesome spaghetti dinner.  Each of the wolves were asked to give a one minute blurb about astronauts that were Eagle Scouts.  Josh talked about Neil Armstrong.  

Josh received his wolf badge.  He worked hard to get it and was pretty proud of his accomplishments. Way to go bud!

In other news, Josh made his first basket at his basketball game tonight.  He intercepted a pass from the other team, took the ball, dribbled to the basket and made it!  It was a beautiful play!!  He was soooo excited!!  Well done Josh! 

Ella-8 months

Happy 8 months little girl!

This little girl is a pretty serious one, I decided.  It takes a lot to get her to smile, especially when there is a camera involved. 

Ella you are definitely feeling better since you started your antibiotics again on Thursday.  You still have that cough that you’ve had for probably a month now.  Hopefully the ear infection will go away for good this time.  I’m ready for you to be your happy self again!

When you were sick you didn’t want to eat anything, but I think your appetite is coming back.  You like the step 3 baby foods as well as anything we’re eating.  You almost have the pincer grasp thing down.  You can pick up bigger things, but have a harder time if it’s smaller. 

You are still stationary.  When we try to get you to reach for toys or things, you have no desire.  No thing is worth having if you have to go get it.  I’m afraid you’re showing symptoms of princess syndrome all ready.  I’m trying to work with you everyday on the floor doing tummy time, standing, and rolling.  I’m not sure it’s helping, but time will tell.

You love all things girly.  You are the only baby I’ve had that actually likes to get their fingernails cut.  You sit so still when I do it.  You like to sit on the bathroom counter and watch me put on my makeup and do my hair.  You’re pretty tolerant when I do your hair.  You still love bathes.

All this being sick has made you an ultra momma’s girl lately.  Even daddy won’t do most of the time. 

You are sleeping great not swaddled.  You still wake up once a night, but that’s about to disappear once you feel all the way better :)

We’re so blessed to have you Ella girl.  Love you.  So glad you’re mine!

This week.

Well, this week has been mostly spent sitting, holding, and rocking this little girl while she’s been sick. again.  Sunday night she started with a fever and all week she’s only wanted to be held and cuddled. 

I was determined not to go to another dr. appointment with nothing wrong, but finally yesterday I couldn’t stand it anymore.  I took her in and indeed: the ear that had the remaining fluid is infected.  We started the antibiotics again last night, so I’m hoping to have my healthy girl back again.  It seems like it’s been forever since she’s been healthy.  

In other news I’m looking forward to a fun weekend with our annual poetry night on the calendar.

Father’s and Sons

So I took my boys to Fathers and Sons you see. 

This was Luke’s first year as he just turned three.

We found a good spot for our tent right next to a tree.

We ate hot dogs, drank pop, and ate candy.

We were having a great time playing and talking you see.

It all came to a sudden end when Luke had to go wee-wee.

I told my boy to just go over there by the tree.

He refused to go out in the open where all could see.

We hiked to the toilet and took a little looky.

It was gross, dirty, nauseous, and very smelly.

I said, Luke here is a toilet now let’s go potty.

No, it’s not clean, there is poop down there said he.

Luke danced and grabbed as we headed over to a cleaner port a potty.

I opened the door, held my breath and said, go pee.

He screamed and cried and refused to go tinkle tee.

I said, just go-to be a big boy you need to stand when you wee.

He screamed even more as brethren stared and I began to plea.

He wouldn’t go even after I threatened him with candy.

Tears were falling and pants were getting wet, it was time to call mommy.

I said he’s coming home, I’ve had enough, the boy just won’t go pee.

I drove him home, put him to bed, and that was the end of Mom’s party.

Last week.

Whew.  Life is busy.  If I don’t stay on top of the blog, it’s so easy to let it fall to the bottom of the to do list.  I’m going to attempt to recap last week in one post. 

Last week started my 3 week turn to help with preschool.  So fun!  These kids have changed so much since I taught them last in Sept.  You can tell they are just about ready for kindergarten!

Tuesday night Josh had a basketball game.  It’s much easier to take their picture when they are standing still and not moving around. lol.  Guess I need a nicer camera to do that.  Josh is the blond kid in case you can’t tell. lol.

Wednesday I spent most of the day doing my volunteering trade- off at the school.  Then we went straight to the church to help set up for New Beginnings.  The program that night was wonderful, and I couldn’t help but be thankful for our church’s youth programs.  One downside of the day though, Ella started to get real fussy again.

Thursday was Valentine’s Day.  Darrin brought me flowers, and I gave him a groupon to get his car detailed.  He also made us dinner that night.  The kids took Valentine’s to school and came home with tons of candy.  I cracked up when I found what Andrew wrote about Valentine’s Day.  Obviously he not in it for the l.o.v.e. yet…which is fine by me.

To me, Valentine’s Day means candy.

Ella, on the other hand, got her first Valentine.  It was from Hudson.

I finally put Ella’s hair in a ponytail for the first time.  I love it, and I think Darrin does too.  The boys kept telling me how weird she looked.  But their favorite part was when I took the rubber band out, her hair stands up in a mohawk by all by itself.  

Friday I took Ella to the dr. thinking her ear infection was back.  There was no infection, but still fluid in one ear.  The dr. inspired me to stop swaddling Ella, so we did that night--cold turkey.  It wasn’t bad at all.  I think most of the time it’s harder on the parents than on the kid…babies are so resilient.   She looks so cute when she sleeps.  And notice the mohawk :)

Saturday Josh had another chess tournament.  This time he won 2nd place in the 3rd grade.  He was so happy about his ribbon.

In other news on Friday Andrew was awarded the Integrity award for his class and was recognized in a school assembly.

He was too embarrassed to have me take his picture at school…so we waited until he got home. lol.

Yay Andrew!  Congratulations!

And in more other news, Darrin and I went out Friday night.  It was the first date out in a while.  We went to the Olive Garden and then got crazy and headed to the bowling alley and played in the arcade.  It was so much fun!  And I just need to document here that I beat Darrin at 3 games of basketball and 2 games of skee ball.  Darrin finally beat me at air hockey, but I thought I had a pretty good run!  We also played pinball and Deal or No Deal.  Anyway, so much fun!

Ears.

Well, I think I figured out what is causing Ella not to sleep very well.

She’s had a cold/cough for the past couple weeks.  But has never had a fever.  So I didn’t think much of it, but yesterday she was super, super fussy, and I started to wonder if she had an ear infection.  It just seemed like to me that if she had an ear infection, she’d be up crying in the middle of the night, not playing.  Anyway-we went to the doctor this morning and sure enough: double ear infection. 

So hopefully the meds will start working soon, and she will get some much needed rest.

Fhe

Last night for FHE we had a lesson on loving one another.

Then using this idea, we made paper hearts and wrote on them things that we love about each other. 

It was a fun activity and the kids ate it up. 

In other news this cute little girl has been an insomniac the last couple days.  She’s hardly taking anything resembling a nap.  And then she wakes up around midnight and wants to play for a couple hours and then is up around 6:30am which is earlier than normal.  When she’s “playing,” she is in her crib just talking and playing with herself.  I don’t feel like I can fully go to sleep until she’s asleep, so I’m getting tired!  Please advise. 

She sure is a cute piano player though.
