Singin' in the rain

The weather has been rainy in Oregon the past couple days. The kids thought it was great fun to get out the umbrellas and play in the rain. Here are the pics. Not much else is going on...we are getting excited about the 4th of July. Potty training is going okay...he usually has one accident a day. Our grass is green and growing. Only one more week until we can play on it. The kids will love it! Well, this has been a really random post...oh well!

Father's and Sons

This past weekend was the father's and sons outing. Instead of the normal overnight campout, our ward decided just to do an evening BBQ at a ward member's house. They live way out in the country and have lots to do on their property. The kids and Darrin had a blast! I was a little worried about their safety as the mother never knows what goes on. I gave them both lectures about staying by daddy and dressed them orange shirts so they'd be easy to find. I'm a nerd, I know! Anyway~I enjoyed lots of time to myself. I cleaned the entire house and got take out for dinner. I think Darrin was a little disappointed that I didn't do anything fun, but I had a blast! I think these events should happen once a month! The Grass is Always Greener

Well, we did it! We finally laid our sod! It's looks so nice, and I can't believe we did it! It seemed like so much work a few months ago and then after dirt, more dirt, sprinklers, fence, rock, and now grass, we have a yard! It's so cool that this morning we didn't have grass and then tonight we do. Sod is a wonderful thing! The kids thought is was great too! Thanks to our friends who came over and helped us!




Wednesday we ordered a big dump truck load of river rock. As you can see in the first picture we put it all around the fence line for a place for the water to go.

Potty Talk

Well, just as I was posting the last post, Josh decided that he wanted to try on the new big boy underwear that we had just bought. He refused to take them off so after 3 hours of sitting on the potty every 10 minutes, he finally went for the first time! It was sooo exciting! He was able to get his toy off the fridge which was the most exciting part for him. The rest of the week was spent cleaning up accidents, staying home where we were close to a familiar potty, and giving lots of encouragement! He's doing really well though. He's even dry all through the night! He's still not telling us he needs to go, so if we forget to make him sit on the potty every few hours he has an accident, but oh well. Poop is also a concept we are working on! I'm sure it will all come in time, but for the mean time we are very proud of the progress we have made! One thing I have learned is that potty training is very tiring: for the mom and for Josh. Here he is on Saturday tuckered out from potty training!

Too Soon

We've once again started trying to motivate Josh to use the potty. I took him to Target and let him pick out a toy and told him that if he successfully used the potty he could have it. The next morning he woke up, and I asked him if he wanted to go sit on the potty. He shook his head and in all seriousness said, "No, it's too soon." So that was on Thursday...and today the toy is still on top of the fridge. Now every time we mention it he suggests taking the toy to one of his friends who does use the big potty. I guess I'm going to have think of something else to motivate him...a toy obviously isn't worth it.

Rainy weekend

Saturday morning we headed to the ward community service project. We were assigned to beautify a local park. Lucky for us, it poured rain the whole time and being the true Oregonians we are, we stuck it out and worked in the rain! The boys had a great time playing in the puddles and running around in the rain. We were wet and cold by the end, but overall we had a fun time and the park looked great at the end!

We spent the rest of the day just laying around. We finally decided to go get a movie and have our first "Hancock Movie Night." We went to the store and bought A Bug's Life. We all got our PJ's on, found some blankets and pillows, got some popcorn and chocolate milk, and sat down to watch the movie. It was fun to be together as a family! Sprinklers

Well, the sprinklers are in and working!! We are now waiting for someone to come and inspect Darrin's work. I guess they have to make sure it's up to code...apparently the city is quite strict about this... So hopefully that will happen this week and then we can start on the grass!!
