Sand tables are so much better than the old sandboxes. Maybe the kids have less sand to track in and clean off(in shoes, socks, pockets, underwear, body crevasses, etc.).
In my day our dads would build a wooden box and fill it with sand. Not only did we sit in it to play, but we battled ants, spiders, and cat excrement and subsequent odor.
Oh, the good ole' days. ;-)
